Copland, Aaron

(1900-91)
   American composer. He was born in Brooklyn. He served as head of the composition department of the Berkshire Music Centre in Tanglewood from 1940 to 1965. His compositions include symphonies, ballets, film scores, orchestral works and operas. His chamber work Vitebsk is based on a Jewish melody.
